Welcome! I'm Dimitra Lachtara, a licensed psychologist based in Thessaloniki, Greece. I specialise in individual counselling with adults. Drawing from psychodynamic and existential theories, I use an integrative approach to understand your life experiences and how they have led to your feeling unhappy, lost or confused, and ultimately seeking therapy. I am passionate about helping my clients cultivate more presence and awareness and discover their innate wisdom and capacity for growth and healing. I value building a safe and supportive healing environment for my clients and will bring an open, accepting, non-judging, and authentic presence to our therapeutic relationship.
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Sheffield and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Sheffield. I have been a Registered Psychologist since 2021, a member of the Psychologists’ Association of Greece, and my master's degree makes me eligible for chartered membership in BPS, upholding professional and ethical standards of practice in my work with clients. I am committed to lifelong learning, attending many professional development workshops and completing additional certifications in the field of psychology. I am passionate about the study and practice of psychoanalysis and have had the opportunity to start a professional seminar in psychoanalysis under the direction of the North-Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society.
My work in the mental health field began as an undergraduate student in psychology. During that time I completed one year of internship. The first was at a psychiatric institution focused on the inpatients’ treatment sessions. There I ran an anger management group for adults, along with my supervisor. The second was as a mental health intern at a non-profit agency focused on the reunification of migrant families, where I gained experience with children coping with grief and loss. It was during my time as an undergraduate student and through the experiences I’ve had working with children and their loved ones that I recognised the powerful impact that family and environment have on the individual. This led me to pursue a master's degree in Counseling psychology. For the past two years, I have worked in a private practice setting. While I continued my studies in Counseling Psychology, during my practicum, my experience has expanded to working more closely with adults dealing with relationship\marital issues, self identity\life adjustment issues, trauma, depression and anxiety.
